Dear friends,
Hope some of you had the chance to enjoy our KERALA NITE function conducted at Stone Mountain High School this past Saturday (April 12). From all accounts, the events of the evening seemed to please most of the members who attended the function.
For those of you who missed this event, here is a brief recap:
The program got started almost on time around 6:10 PM. After some brief comments by Sheila Johnson (President for 2002) and George Koovakada (President for 2003), we got off on an inspirational note with a classical prayer song, sung by Pooja and Poorna. The rest of the evening was a wonderful mix of Beauty Pageant and Gaanamela.
Even though there were only four contestants (Bincy Abraham, Elizabeth George, Jenny Luke and Thushara Kaparampil), the Beauty Pageant was quite enjoyable. Elizabeth George was crowned Miss Kerala Georgia 2003. She received a beautiful set of gold jewellery from the Grand Sponsor for the evening, Bhindi Jewelers. The first runner-up, Thushara, received a gift certificate from India Silk House and a gift certificate from South Indian Cafe. All the other contestants received gift certificates from India Silk House.
The audience really enjoyed the Gaanamela by SAREGA, the group from New York. They presented a wonderful mix of old and new songs. Sathish Menon, one of the male vocalists, was remarkable with his superb voice control and his rendition of some of the famous semi-classical pieces. The performance of the orchestra, as some commented, was out of this world.
There was a raffle for a 27" TV for the first 100 members who came for the program. The lucky winner was Ms.Shanthini Kurian.
The intermission allowed the members a chance to meet with friends and family and have a truly enjoyable time. The snack bar with delicious bonda, vada and other choice items was a busy place till most of the stuff got sold out!
